I love chicken wings, but they can be super expensive. The restaurants in my area charge about $2 a wing, which is completely insane. We often go out for wing night when they are half-price but after needing to buy a drink, plus the tip, the price creeps up. So I have started making wings at home and haven’t looked back.

Not a huge fan of spicy, then these wings probably aren’t for you. But you can take out or reduce the cayenne pepper to take a little gas off the fire!

The spice level is a hard thing to describe because it is very personal, but if it helps, I can’t eat hot wings at a restaurant because they are too hot, but I can eat these. They are spicy, but just right under the threshold of losing flavour and burning your nose hairs. If you end up liking this recipe, you might also like my honey siracha chicken thighs, sweet and spicy baked chicken or my smoky baked turkey wings.

I stumbled upon a version of these wings at a New Year’s party this year. A friend made some baked wings, and while she didn’t have an actual recipe, she did tell me the gist of it. Throw spices in a bowl with some Frank’s, mix and bake. Not super helpful, but it got the ball rolling.

It took me a few times to get the recipe right. I have made multiple batches of wings over the past few weeks, but I feel I have now nailed it!

Sidekick Suggestions

I like to have some chopped veggie sticks served on the side with these wings, just like you would get in restaurants, along with a good dip. The veggies and dip help to take away some of the heat, so I can recuperate before biting into the next spicy chicken wing.

When I am having a party, and make a large batch of oven-baked buffalo chicken wings and serve them with a creamy potato salad and some tangy coleslaw.
