Camping wouldn’t be camping without a S’more by the campfire. But getting out in the wilderness isn’t always easy or for some a “never ever” endeavor. With this s’mores dip recipe you don’t have to brave the outdoors to enjoy this epic treat.
Whether you prefer the traditional oven method or crave a quicker version using the air fryer, this recipe promises to satisfy your sweet tooth and transport you back to summer camping memories.
Ingredients You’ll need
- Milk chocolate bar or chips – I like to use Cadbury Milk Chocolate because it is super creamy and melts really smoothly.
- Large marshmallows – not the jumbo kind. Just normal large not jumbo.
- Graham crackers – for dipping.
The Best Chocolate To Use For Smores
For a traditional s’more over the fire, you can use any chocolate you like. Or candy bar for that matter. But for this Smores Dip, I recommend sticking with milk chocolate because it is the Grandaddy of choice for smores recipes but also because it has a creamier texture.
Dark chocolate and white chocolate (not really chocolate) work well too but here are some of my other favorite candy bar swaps to try!
- Aero Bars – because the airy texture melts really well and quickly and if they don’t melt all the way they add a great texture
- Peanut butter cups
- Caramilk bars – or a caramel and chocolate bar
- Mars bars – but slice them and then lay them on their side first.
How To Make Air Fryer Smores
Add the milk chocolate bar to the bottom of a small oven-proof baking dish. Small enough to fit into your air fryer.
Air fry at 350°F uncovered for about 2-3 minutes or until the chocolate is glossy and softened. Remove the chocolate from the air fryer.
Spread the chocolate evenly over the bottom of the baking dish using a spatula or the back of a spoon.
Add the whole large marshmallows one by one to the top of the melted chocolate. Make sure they are snug together and stuck down in the chocolate. The melted chocolate will act like glue to keep them from blowing around inside the air fryer.
Air fry the baking dish now with the marshmallows on top for 2-3 more minutes. Watch the marshmallows carefully. They should be puffy and golden to dark golden brown on top just like they came out of the campfire!
Remove the baking dish from the air fryer and serve warm with graham crackers, cookies, pretzels, apple, or banana slices (not too ripe).
Making Smores dip in the oven
It is really not much different!
Add the chocolate to the bottom of a baking dish and bake for 2-3 minutes in an oven preheated to 350°F. The chocolate will be glossy and soft.
Spread it out like before along the bottom of the pan and top snuggly with the marshmallows.
Pop it back in the oven for a minute to let the marshmallows heat up a bit and get soft and puffy.
Switch the oven to Broil and for 2-3 minutes or until the tops of the marshmallows turn golden brown.
Remove the smores dip from the oven and serve warm.
Storage and Reheating
If you have leftovers simply cover the smores dip with a tight-fitting lid and store it at room temperature on the counter for up to a week.
To reheat, just pop it in the microwave for 30 seconds or until the chocolate has softened up again and dip away!
Alternatively, you could also pop it back into the air fryer or oven for a few minutes as well. The goal is just to get the chocolate soft and melted again.
